Michael Taggart, 68, of Vermillion, SD passed away Tuesday, May 2 at his home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born February 1, 1949 in Vermillion to Alfred “Doc” and Joyce (Hansen) Taggart. He served in the Army from 1968 – 1970 and spent one year in Vietnam. He worked over 20 years as a mason helping to build the USD Law School and the Vermillion Waste Water Treatment plant. In 1988, he went to work for the City of Vermillion as a Carpenter for the Street Department retiring in 2014 after 26 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and contemplating the days events. “Why do today what you can do tomorrow.”
Mike leaves behind his wife of 41 years Connie Taggart of Vermillion, two daughters; Monica (Mark) Hanson of Rapid City, SD, Jodi Evans of Merriman, NE, a son DeWayne (Kristen) Taggart of Colman, SD and Mike considered Kelleen Gregg of Vermillion as another daughter. His grandchildren; Samantha (Cole) Wyatt, Cody (Erika) Hanson, Wayne Evans III and Faith and Kaitlyn Taggart and a great granddaughter Chloe Hanson. He is also survived by a sister Berniece (Jerald) Chamberlain of Vermillion and six brothers; Chuck (Mary) Taggart, Leo (Tricia) Taggart, Tom (Rhonda) Taggart, Wally Taggart all of Vermillion, Glen (Tracy) Taggart of Wakonda, SD and David Taggart of Vermillion and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betsy Brunick.
