Barbara Donnelly, 70, passed away peacefully in Denver, Colorado with family by her side on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. She fought a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Barbara was born November 20, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Retha (Carroll) Donnelly of Elk Point, SD. She attended Elk Point High School and graduated in 1966. Barbara attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Huron, South Dakota. After graduating in 1969, she enjoyed a nursing career in hospitals in Sacramento and San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO. She worked as a nurse for more than 40 years before she retired from Porter Hospital in Denver.
After retirement, Barbara shared her time between Denver and Elk Point where she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Much of Barbara’s time was spent traveling, skiing, and visiting with family and friends. She had a keen sense of humor and brought much laughter to everyone with whom she came in contact.
She is survived by her son Brian Ouellette of Sacramento, CA, her brother Steve (Peggy) Donnelly of Vermillion, SD, her nieces and nephews; Melissa Donnelly of Sioux Falls, John (Jen) Donnelly and son Jack of Cincinatti, Meggie (Kaine) Eisenreich, and daughter Harper and son Michael of Omaha and Jeff Donnelly of Vermillion. Barbara had a special place in her heart for her aunt Ruth Bucholz of Denver and she will be missed by many aunts, cousins and friends.
