Geraldine "Gerrie" Olsen (Christensen)
Geraldine “Gerrie” Marie Christensen was born August 26, 1939 in a rural Center Point farmhouse to Nels and Doris (Poppe) Christensen. Gerrie attended country school near Irene and graduated from Irene High School in 1957. She attended Nettleton Business College graduating in 1958 and worked at the Argus Leader. During that time she met the man that would become her husband for nearly 45 years. Roger and Gerrie were married on March 7, 1959 and began their life as a team. Roger and Gerrie had four daughters Teri, Penny, Becky and Heidi. Gerrie worked at the University of South Dakota, School of Medical during the 60’s but soon became Roger’s right hand on the farm. She worked her tail off milking cows, working in the fields, managing the farm books and always ensuring her family had clean clothes and fabulous meals on the table. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all with her giving heart. Gerrie was a strong woman and instilled the same qualities in her daughters. Gerrie was known for her potato salad that had that special extra something we like to think was love; with a dash of sour cream. After Roger passed in February 2004 she stayed on the farm then moved to Viborg in 2006. She worked at Pioneer Memorial Hospital where she currently led an exercise class for seniors and volunteered at the gift shop. She was active in DBS, Viborg Methodist Church, Irene Legion Auxiliary and always willing to drive a friend where ever needed. Gerrie had a better social life then her daughters.
Gerrie leaves behind these people who loved her. Daughters, Teri Ducheneaux (Jim Van Well), Sioux Falls, Penny (Danny) Doty, Black Hawk, Becky (Mike) Nutley, Irene and Heidi Jennings, Pierre.
