Karla Renae Harnois, 57 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Karla was born at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion, SD on August 11, 1960 to John and Maryln (Mart) Harnois. She attended school at Crippled Children’s Hospital and School. Karla was a resident of DakotAbilities in Sioux Falls.
Karla will always be remembered for her warm smile and infectious personality. While she may have lived with a few physical limitations, she was blessed with an unbridled spirit and undaunted courage that served as an inspiration to all those who came to know and love her.
Karla was gifted with the talent of painting by using a mouth brush. As an artist Karla represented South Dakota along with 49 other individuals from across the United States at the 1992 Inauguration of President Bill Clinton. Eventually she had her own artist studio in the Sioux Falls Western Mall. Karla’s paintings have been featured in various publications and sold nationwide. Her success has been well documented.
Karla is survived by her mother, Maryln of Vermillion; brothers Richard (Raquel), Leola SD, Jody (Marcia), Vermillion SD, John (Karmen), Buffalo MN, and Thomas (Tina), Pierre SD; five nieces and nephews Michael, Thomas, Michelle, Chantel and Sean; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John, and sister, Michelle Marie.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial of ashes will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Lunch will be served.
