Obituary for Ronald "Ronnie" Bak

Ronald Gene Bak, age 76, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Ron was born to Arthur and Helen (Munkvold) Bak on March 7, 1942, in Yankton, SD. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Irene.
Ron attended Irene School and graduated in 1960. On April 17, 1964, he married the love of his life Sandra Hansen and together they raised two children Ricky and Tamara.
In March of 1966, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He spent 5 months of training in Amarillo, TX, and was then stationed in the Philippines until 1968. Afterwards, he was appointed to the Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD. He was honorably discharged in January of 1970.
Ron graduated from Mitchell Vo-Tech in 1971 with an electrical degree. Ron and Sandy then moved to Spearfish, SD, where he worked for Gadsen Electric. After returning to Irene he joined his father and formed Baks Electric.
In 1990, Ron started his employment in Vermillion and worked for the University of South Dakota as an electrician. He retired in 2008.
From 1984 to the present, Ron was a member of the American Legion Post 193, he was also a member of the Irene Fire Department and served as a first responder in his earlier years. Ron was member of the 1960 State B Basketball tournament team. In 2002, Ron was inducted into the Irene High School Cardinal Hall of Fame.
During their time together, Ron and Sandy enjoyed many activities such as camping, getting together with friends and spending time with family. Their favorite pastime was dancing. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman and Green Bay Packer Fan.
Ron is survived by his wife Sandra, son Ricky (Susan) of Irene, daughter Tamara (Donnie) of Yankton and grandchildren Dylan, Taylor, Morgan, Jordan, Ashton, Kylie and Shay. Great-Grandchildren Aubree and Walker. Brothers David (Linda) Bak, Larry (Carol) Bak and Sister Vicki Mork all of Irene. Aunts; Martha Soeth of Irene, Doris Bryant of Custer and June Munkvold of Sioux Falls, several cousins, nieces and nephews
He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Helen Bak, brother-in-law Lloyd Mork, grandparents, aunts and uncles and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Irene American Legion Post 193.
