Alice Elizabeth Yelverton, 93, of Yankton, SD died Wednesday morning, September 19th, 2018 at Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, SD.
Born Alice Elizabeth Atchison in New Concord, Muskingum County, OH, to mother Mary Alice Rankin and father Ralph Danley Atchison. She the longest-lived of both her siblings, Richard Lee Atchison (1922-2009) and John Robert Atchison (1928-2005).
She graduated with an education degree from Muskingum College and later became secretary for the president of the University of Texas in Austin, TX and later for the Department of Geology and Economic Resources at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
While she lived in many locations throughout her life, her longest domicile was in Kamuela, HI after she and her husband Forest of 57 years relocated there from Arizona in 2004. She moved back to the mainland in Yankton, SD in February of 2017.
She is survived by her two sons Charles (Barbara) Yelverton in Vermillion, SD and Forrest (Eileen) Yelverton in Lyons, CO, and by her only grandchild, Kelly Yelverton in Friday Harbor, WA.
Memorial donations can be made to Hawaii Island Humane Society/Waimea Shelter in Kamuela, HI where her surviving cat Lizzie is from or Heartland Humane Society in Yankton, SD.
Private services will be held at a later date, the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion is handling the arrangements.
