Obituary for Seth Daven Herting

Seth Daven Herting
Seth Herting, 51, of Sioux Falls, SD, Formerly of Vermillion, SD, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 31 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 8 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion with burial of ashes at a later date. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday at the Funeral Home.
Seth Daven Herting, son of Daven Herting and Pricilla “Pat” Koepp, was born February 8, 1967, in Renton, Washington. He graduated from Lakeland High school, in Rathdum, Idaho, in 1985 and attended ITT Techcnical Institue studying Computer Aided Drafting in Spokane, Washington. Seth was passionate about his work as an over the road truck driver. He spent many dedicated years at Larson Transport of Vermillion and was most recently employed by Jensen Farms of Burbank. He was united in marriage to Wendy Kent on June 9, 2012 in Meckling, South Dakota. He was a master coin collector, having coins ranging from the 1700’s up until today. Seth had a fun personality and was always telling jokes or playing practical jokes on unsuspecting family members. He had a passion for drafting and was an excellent artist. A self-professed nerd, he was very into computers and Star Wars. Having grown up in Washington and Idaho, he loved the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. Extensive does not even begin to describe his music collection of 9 Terra Bytes. His collection ranged from oldies rock and roll to heavy metal. Seth was very proud of the recent personal growth he had made in his life. He was in a much better place mentally and physically. He was honored to have just reached 90 days of sobriety. He was making exceptional progress within himself and with his family, which makes this unexpected loss so much harder. He was a selfless individual who loved nothing more than being a grandfather to his loving grandchildren. His family was number one in his life and he would do anything for them.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wendy Herting of Sioux Falls; mother, Pat Koepp of Sioux Falls; father, Daven (Linda) Herting of Idaho; daughters, Kayla (David Renbarger) Herting of Sioux Falls, Jordan Herting of Sioux Falls, Natasha (Brian Gaylord) Kent of Vermillion, and Kristan Kent of Sioux Falls; sons, Joshua (Ashley) Opel of Florida, Jimmy (Teresa) Opel of Colorado, Darren (Savannah) Vandenberg of Vermillion, Justin Kent of Michigan; brother, Sean Herting of Idaho; sisters, Bobbi Herting of Sioux Falls, Shannen (Seth) Heillman of Kansas, and Sharee Herting of Idaho; 9 grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Colleen O’Bleness of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his brother Darrel in infancy; his step-father, Tom Van Donselaar; and step-brother, Vincent Van Donselaar.
Donations to the family are requested in lieu of flowers.
