Obituary for Richard "Rick" "Jorge" Jorgenson

Print
Richard Dennis “Rick” Jorgenson, 66, of Vermillion, SD passed away peacefully on September 24, 2018 at his residence.
Rick was born June 18, 1952 in Vermillion to M. Daryl and Rachel (Anderson) Jorgenson. He attended Vermillion schools, graduating from Vermillion High School in 1970. He began working for Willson Florist while in high school. He worked there until going to work for the University of South Dakota. He retired after 19 years on the groundskeeping crew at USD in July 2016.
He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a person with an opinion about most things and would usually tell you exactly what he thought. Sentimental curmudgeon? He treasured family and collected elephants. He fed dogs under the table when he knew they weren’t to have people food! At times, he teased unmercifully. He liked Saturday morning Westerns and Quincy, MD. He would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it. He did not recognize the Vikings as a “real” football team much to the chagrin of the MN branch of his family! You leave a big hole in many hearts. We love you, Rick!!
Rick is survived by brothers, Cliff (Mary) Jorgenson of Pierre, SD and Dwight (Mary) Jorgenson of Phoenix, AZ and sister Carol Jorgenson of Luverne, MN. Uncle Rick will be missed by nieces Anastasia Johnson and Bonnie Miller; nephews Damian, Daryl and Anders Jorgenson, and Justin Ehlers; great nieces and nephews, Taya, Karac, Noah, Jake, Alec, Margo, Hannah, Leigha and Dominick. He will be missed by his best buds Larry Hudson, PJ Maloney and the gang at Careys!
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and niece Robin Jorgenson.
Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate Rick’s life with stories, laughs, tears and a few Bud Lites! There will be no service.
