Obituary

Philip Eric Broderson, 54, of Wakonda, SD passed away June 24th, 2020.

Philip was born in Gregory, SD on September 21st, 1965 to Warren and Carol Broderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Vangen Lutheran Church. Phil spent most of his childhood growing up on their family farm near Volin, SD. He attended school at Gayville-Volin Public Schools. He later worked for various companies driving truck.

In 1992, he married Kristi Peterson in Spring Valley. He started farming with Merlin Peterson in 1995 and went onto farm for the Peterson’s for 28 years. While farming, he also worked for Poet for 17 years. In 2005, Kristi and Phil were blessed with their son Clay. Although his son Clay was his number one love, he enjoyed many hobbies including hunting with friends and family, collecting firearms, and toy tractors. Phil was known by some as “Buffalo” Phil as he raised buffalo for some time. Phil was well loved by his family and friends for his down to earth, thoughtful nature, and wiliness to help. He spent his last days doing what he loved, spending time outdoors helping a long-time friend.

Phil is survived by his son Clay Broderson, Mother Carol Broderson, sister in law Stephanie Broderson, niece Andrea (Braden) Junker, niece Bethany Broderson, and nephew Alex Broderson, and special friend Chris Reitsma. He is preceded in death by his father Warren Broderson, sister Sharon Broderson, and brother Mike Broderson. He was grateful to have shared his life with his loving family, friends, and animals.

Our hearts are with all of you in Broderson family, especially Clay. You are a terrific young man and we really enjoyed having you on our Rosebud mission team. As you know we couldn’t go this year due to the virus, but we are praying for you Clay. And we will pray for your family and will look forward to having you go with us again next summer.

Philip was a year ahead of my son in high school. They were good friends. Philip would come into bar we owned in volin for pizza or pop. He was quiet but but always visited with me. My heart goes out to Carol and Clay. Sending prayers for family during this time.
