Barbara T Bernard

Barbara Therese Bernard, 92 of Vermillion, SD passed away Friday, November 12, 2021, at Sanford Vermillion Care Center. It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Barbara Bernard.
A public visitation will be held at St. Agnes Church, Vermillion on Thursday, November 18, 2021, starting at 5 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Funeral mass will be Friday, November 19, 2021, beginning at 11 AM preceded by a rosary.
Barb was born May 28, 1929, to William and Lillian (Ruddell) Lyle. She grew up in Beresford, South Dakota and graduated from Vermillion high school 1947.
Barb married John R Bernard on February 14, 1950, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Garryowen. Barb and John lived near Spink, SD for 59 years where they had five children. Saturday was baking and cleaning day - always fresh rolls of some sort for Sunday breakfast. She loved playing cards of any kind. She enjoyed sewing, doing cross stitch and latch hook
She is survived by her husband John of 71+ years and her five children: Shelly Bendert of Vermillion, Mariann Bernard (Bob Dixon) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Carol Mikuska (Jon Vander Pol) of Platte, SD, Cindy Knudsen (Mark) of Vermillion and Lyle (Lynn) of Merrill, IA, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Mark Lyle (Jeanne) of Des Moines, IA, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her mother Lillian, father William, four sisters and two brothers and 2 sons-in-law, Daryl Kuper and Mike Mikuska.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the St Agnes Catholic School.
