Catherine I. (Nooney) Bruyer, 100, of Vermillion, SD, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
Catherine I. Bruyer was born to John and Catherine Nooney in rural Yankton County – October 25, 1923.
Catherine attended grade school in rural Yankton County and graduated from Irene High School in 1942. She worked in Sioux City, IA for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later returned to Yankton, SD and worked for Fox Jewelry Store.
She was a lifetime member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Eagles Club, Ladies Auxiliary at St. Agnes, and a member of the Legion of Mary League.
She married George E. Bruyer on August 13, 1945, and moved to a farm in rural Vermillion, SD. She lived there and raised their family of six children: 1 son - Larry (Louise) Bruyer – Sioux City, IA. Daughters – Maggie (Don) Zahm – Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Kay (Tom) Sletten – Gilbert, AZ, Roseann Bierle – Sioux Falls, SD, Teresa (Kevin) Millage – Vermillion, SD, Patsy (T.R.) Sullivan – Burbank, SD. Catherine had 17 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren and 2 more on the way and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine will be remembered for her love of gardening, baking, and crocheting. Her unwavering faith and strength will never be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by husband George on October 19, 2001. Parents John and Catherine Nooney, brothers- Bill and James Nooney, sisters- Mary Peterson, Theresa Brennan, and Agnes Nooney, and son in law Greg Bierle.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, October 11, 2024, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery rural Vermillion. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2024, Rosary at 5:45 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm with the family present at the St. Agnes Catholic Church.
