Geraldine F. Nelsen

Gerry Nelsen, 93, of Wakonda, SD passed away peacefully at Wakonda Heritage Manor on Monday afternoon, April 22nd.

Gerry was born on September 26th, 1930, to Haakon and Alice (Lowe) Hevle.  Gerry graduated from Irene High School and later married the love of her life, Burnell, on February 14th, 1950, at Trondhjem Lutheran church.   They lived and worked on their farm in    Wakonda where together they raised their five children.  Following their retirement they moved to Wakonda, SD.

Gerry was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She always had a great faith for her God, her love of family and many lifelong friends.   She also cherished every one of the wonderful caregivers at Wakonda Heritage Manor during the final years of her life.  Gerry had a special love for her sisters, singing together throughout her life.   Gerry was an avid knitter and reader, enjoyed playing cards, as well as her church activities but her most cherished activity was spending time with her family and friends.

Gerry is survived by her five children, Ron (Jeanne) Nelsen, Gene (Peg) Nelsen, Linda (Don) Renken, Mark (Julie) Nelsen, and Jennifer Frank.   Her grandchildren, Beth (Brad) Melstad, Katie (Jay) Weatherill, Kyle Huth, Alison (Nick) Buckman, Josh (Kristie) Huth, Becky (Jesse) Letsche, Christopher Nelsen (Kelsey Colwell), Jordan (Tyler) Colombo, Mila Frank and Kasch Frank.  Her Great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Haleigh, Brooks, Lochan, Ainsley, Eli, Jayla, Natalle, Nash, Knox, Addison, Emerson, Harper, Danny, and Oliver.  Her Great great grandchildren, Xavier, Journey, and Truth.  Her sister, Janice Erickson, and her many nieces and nephews.  

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell, her parents, her in laws, three sisters and their spouses, her two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and their spouses.
