Erin Leigh (Doorn) Haverhals, 42, of Vermillion, South Dakota, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 2, 2022 after her battle with cancer.
Erin was born in Mitchell, South Dakota to Douglas and Barbara Doorn. While attending Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa Erin met her loving husband of nearly 20 years, Paul Haverhals. She joined Paul at Iowa State University where they graduated in 2002. Erin and Paul were then married in Spencer, Iowa where they lived before Paul’s military career took them to Alabama, Japan, and Germany. Paul's civilian career brought them back to Alabama then Sioux Falls, SD, Mandan, ND, and finally Vermillion, SD.
Erin was a loving and very much-loved wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was blessed with seven beautiful children who survive her: Dreaka (17), Cora (15), Arie (13), Adriana (10), Hendrik (8), Wilhelmina (5), and Hans (2). She was passionate about her children’s walk with Christ and their education, faithfully raising them up in the way they should go. She enjoyed golfing, camping, skiing, and spending peaceful evenings reading books out loud to her family. She joyfully embraced both the adventure of travelling abroad as well as the liveliness of a full (and often crazy) household.
Erin is survived by her husband, Paul; mother, Barb; siblings, Case (Holly) Doorn, Seth (Rachel) Doorn, and Abby Doorn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Erin was preceded in death by her father, Douglas, and grandparents, Dean and Loris Doorn and Ned and Nancy Townsend.
