Myrtle Hickman, 96, of Vermillion, SD passed away Friday, March 26 at the Sanford Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Myrtle Christopherson was born September 27, 1924 in Clay County to Hans and Grace (McDonald) Christopherson, she graduated from Vermillion high school in 1943. Myrtle worked in the clay county auditor’s office, at Montgomery Wards in Sioux Falls, and at the State Auditor’s office until retiring in 1971.
Myrtle married Eugene “Bud” Christensen in 1946 and they had two daughters, Jan and Trudy, and in 1974, she married Clark Hickman.
She enjoyed time with family and friends, playing cards at the Main Street Center, puzzles and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughters; Jan (Dick) Slattery, Trudy (Larry) Anthofer, stepson, Randall Hickman and stepson in law Bruce Schumacher. Stepdaughters, Barbara (Noll) White, Karen (Wayne) Hess, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew George (Sharon) Hendricks and a niece Donna (Don) Seiler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Bud and Clark, a brother Herbert Christopherson, a sister Helen Hendricks and a stepdaughter Janis Schumacher.
As per her wishes, no services will be held. Memorials will be gratefully accepted by St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Main Street Center, Shriners or Sanford Hospice.
