Irene Iverson

Irene C. Iverson, 91, Vermillion SD passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Sanford Care Center, Vermillion. Her family was with her through virtual prayer, and presence at her side. Having been given a long life on Earth, she was called home by her Lord and Savior, and was greeted in Heaven by the many loved ones who have passed before her.

Irene Catherine Danielson was born June 4, 1930 to Oscar and Clara (Hansen) Danielson. She grew up on the farm her parents owned along the Missouri River, off Timber Road, in Clay County, SD. She attended Lincoln School and graduated from Vermillion High School in June 1948.

She married Duane LeMoyne Iverson on October 17, 1948 at Bergen Lutheran Church, Meckling SD. They had known each other for years, through school and church, but eventually discovered enduring love, having attained 61 years of marriage. Irene and Duane had five children, Cinda Lee, Sharla, Ricky, Glenda and Kevin. She was kept busy at home sewing beautiful outfits for her children, herself, and items for the home through the years. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She especially enjoyed going 'the extra mile' preparing delicious meals during holiday celebrations. While at home, she began doing alterations for two local men's clothing stores. With her children in school, she began work outside the home for the next 30 years, which included the City of Vermillion, United National Bank and USD Department of Geological Survey. In addition to family and work, she stayed occupied as a PTA President, Sunday School Superintendent, Extension Club member, Tupperware Sales, and her business ,“Renie Kay Gifts”. She enjoyed bowling, doing crafts and decorating her lovely home which she and her husband had physically built and shared for 30 years.

Having travelled extensively in their later years, with many winters in California, Irene realized her longtime dream of moving to California when she and Duane retired and moved to their new home in Palm Desert in 1998. She loved the sun, warmth, and beauty of the retirement resort where they lived, but she and her husband always returned to the Midwest for important family events.

Her husband, Duane passed away in December 2009 and Irene's family decided she should return to South Dakota. In 2012, arriving in Vermillion, Irene moved into Sanford Care Center. Her family would like to thank Sanford Care Center staff for the loving care she received in the nine years that followed her return home. Your care and support provided to our family during Mom's final days was greatly appreciated. Thank you Pastor Jim Fowler for your counsel and prayers, and Bob Hansen, Hansen Funeral Home, for your care with Mom's final arrangements.

Her memory will be cherished by her children Cinda Lee (Raymond) Passick,Vermillion, Sharla (Craig) Nissen, Byron MN, Rick Iverson, Volin, Glenda Iverson, Tabor and Kevin Iverson, Rapid City; grandchildren Chad (Kirsten) Passick, Vermillion, Erin (Marc) Larson and Adam (Deborah) Passick, Harrisburg, Rene (Steve) Millner, Crosslake MN, Donell (Erick) Nolting, Glenwood MN, Derek Iverson, Yankton, Tess (Mike) Williams, Rapid City; great-grandchildren Keeley, Tatem and Oscar Passick; Hailey, Blake and Kaitlyn Millner; Cade and Addison Larson; Riley and Tegan Passick; and Aubrey Williams; sister, Joan Thompson, brother-in-law, Ralph Bechtold; Jerris Miles and family (Glenda); Kaye Iverson (Tess); and many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Duane, granddaughter Alicia Kaye Iverson; sisters and brother-in-law's, Opal and Frank Mumaugh, Carol Bechtold and Steve Thompson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 10:00 AM at Hansen Funeral Home, Vermillion, SD with Pastor Jim Fowler officiating. Inurnment will be at Cathedral Memorial Gardens, Garden Grove CA.
