Janice O Erickson

Janice Opal (Hevle) Erickson, 98, of Irene, SD, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, beginning at 2:00PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior. 

Janice Erickson was born June 27th, 1925, to Haakon & Alice (Low) Hevle. She was baptized & confirmed at Trondhjem Lutheran Church rural Volin, SD.  She attended McFarlan Grade

School and graduated from Irene High School in 1944.

Janice married Palmer Luverne Erickson, June 29th, 1948, at Trondhjem Lutheran Church. Together they owned and operated Eric’s Café for several years after their marriage.  Janice also worked at Sunset Manor as a cook for 9 ½ years. She was later employed at Erickson Hardware for many years until she retired.

She was a member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church for many years & later became a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene. There Janice enjoyed singing in the church choir, she loved quilting with the Calvary Women, and she enjoyed going to Bible Study group.  

Her family was always very special, and she enjoyed their family gatherings. She and her sisters enjoyed singing together for many years and Janice loved music.

Janice is survived by her children June Gompf of Bethany, OK; Joan (Joe) Zilla of Mitchell, SD; Paul (Pam) Erickson of Irene, SD; and Daryl Erickson of Yankton, SD. She is also survived by her Sister-in-law Mary Erickson of Alcester, SD and 10 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. 

Proceeding her in death were her loving husband Palmer, her parents Haakon & Alice, Sisters Adeline (Larry) Maine; Deloris (Howard) Jensen; Geraldine (Burnell) Nelsen and brother-in-lawJerome Erickson.
