- John David Hazen, 76, of Volin, SD died Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
- John was born June 29, 1948, in Yankton, SD to John and Alma (Larson) Hazen.
- John attended K-12 grade at Volin, SD and then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Southern State College at Springfield, SD.
- After his college days, he was involved in over the road trucking going to Washington, Oregon and California.
- He met and married Lois Vennard in 1978. They were blessed with three wonderful children Justin, Jessica and James, and later on a beautiful granddaughter Jordyn Hazen.
- In his younger days John enjoyed horses and hunting. Some of his favorite times were hunting squirrels with his dad and going out west with his sons to hunt prairie dogs, deer and antelope. He enjoyed weekend trips with his wife Lois to the Black Hills and elsewhere when time allowed. He truly enjoyed his daughter and granddaughter on most weekends.
- John is survived by his wife Lois, sons, Justin and James (Christie, Taven & Tayah), daughter Jessica and granddaughter Jordyn. Also, sister Sophie Merrigan and many nieces and nephews.
- John was always ready to help out a friend.
- A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, SD. Burial will follow in the Volin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Friday, February 28, at the church. For obituary and online condolences, visit hansenfuneralhome.com
