Alvina Johnson, 85, of Vermillion passed away Tuesday, May 12 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Alvina Waggener was born November 2, 1934 in Centerville, SD to Roscoe and Minnie (Diekmann) Waggener. Alvina Anne was the youngest sibling to (in order eldest to youngest) Virgil Waggener (infant son), Eileen Cora Waggener (Christensen), Russell Oliver Waggener (Kathryn Young), Gale Simon Waggener (Dora Bendert), Donald Roscoe Waggener, and Fredrick Lowell Waggener. To Anne and Art, their children were their pets, as many of us can witness to this. Anne was one of the keepers of the family tree and photos. Enjoyed the occasional drop by visit from family. She attended Centerville schools and married Arthur Johnson on March 14, 1958 in Minnesota. Alvina had worked at the University of South Dakota in food service for many years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, loved fishing and boating and working outside.
She was preceded in death by: Parents Roscoe Oliver Waggener and Jannah Friedrike Wilhelmine Diekmann (Minnie for short); siblings: Virgil, Eileen, Russell, Gale, Donald, Fredrick; Nephews: James Roscoe Christensen, and Marvin Gifford Christensen (5.5 hours after Anne passed away so did Marvin). Great nephew: Mark Alan Christensen, Thomas James Christensen and brother and sister in laws.
Alvina is survived by: Nieces: Barbara Sue Waggener (and family), Cynthia Kaye Waggener (and family), Rochelle Malea Waggener (and family), Donna Mae Gayle Waggener (and family), and Dawn Kay Hewlett and Rita Allen. Great nieces and nephews: Brian Dean Christensen, Lisa Ann Rose (Christensen), Julie Huval (Christensen), Deanna Jarvis (Christensen), Dawn Christensen, Kelsey Kleinsasser, Mitchell Kleinsasser, Angela Foreman, Jeffrey Foreman, Brooke Jensen, Conor Jensen.A brother in law Virgil Johnson, and many Great great nieces and nephews, and at least two great-great-great nephews.
Due to the current health conditions, memorial services will be held at a later date.
