Joseph “Don” Donohoe, 85 of Sioux Falls previously of Vermillion, SD passed away peacefully at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community on October 15, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be held on October 21, 2022, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion beginning at 11:00AM. A Visitation will be held at 9:30AM Prior to the Mass.
Joseph Donald Donohoe was born on March 20, 1937, to Dan and Laura (Ginther) Donohoe in Burbank, SD. He attended Vermillion High School, graduating in 1955. Following high school Don continued to work on his family’s farm. Don also joined the SD Air National Guard in October of 1957 and was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent in October of 1963.
Don married Betty Goeken in Manteca, California on April 24, 1971, and shortly thereafter moved back to the family farm near Burbank, SD. Into this marriage were born two children, twins Dan and Mary Elizabeth, who was stillborn at birth. The family continued to live on the family farm until moving back to Manteca, CA in 1982 and lived there for nine months before moving back to Vermillion. Shortly thereafter, Don took a position as a custodian for the Vermillion School District and worked there for 27 years before retiring. In retirement Don continued to live in Vermillion until moving to Sioux Falls in 2019 to be closer to family.
Don was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church before moving to Sioux Falls. He was a big sports fan with his favorite teams being the University of South Dakota Coyotes, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings. His main joy in his later years was watching his grandsons participate in their various activities.
Don is survived by his son, Dan (Vickie) Donohoe of Sioux Falls, SD and their sons Noah and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Mary Elizabeth, and one brother Bernard F. Donohoe.
