Milo Carl Gilbertson

     Milo Carl Gilbertson, 85, of Vermillion, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 13th at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital.

     Milo was born on February 21, 1938, in Yankton, SD to Carl and Marie (Ring) Gilbertson.  He graduated from Vermillion high school and attended USD for a year before marrying Sarah “Sally” Casey in 1961 in Vermillion. 

     Milo joined the Army and served during the Berlin Crisis and finished his military service with the Army National Guard. He and Sally moved to their farm in Meckling, SD in 1963 where they raised their four sons.  Milo spent many years building their farm with pigs & cattle as well as tending their crops of corn and soybeans.  Milo and Sally moved to Vermillion in 2007 to their house on the golf course, where he enjoyed retirement. 

     He served as a Director on the Livestock Feeders Board, and as a director for 26 years on the Clay Union Electric board.  He served on the South Dakota Rural Electric Association and represented South Dakota on the National Rural Electric Association of Coops for 15 years.

     He is survived by his wife Sally of Vermillion, Glen (Chelle) Gilbertson, Marty (Teresa) Gilbertson all of Vermillion, Gary (Jody) Gilbertson of Sioux Falls, and Neil Gilbertson of Madison, SD.  Seven grandchildren & two great grandchildren; Casey (Scott) Hamman, Jessica (Dominic) Fear, Chelsea Gilbertson, Gavin Gilbertson, Devin Gilbertson, Nate Gilbertson, Will Gilbertson Pearse & Preston Hamman. He is also survived by a sister, Eileen Bottolfson of Dallas, Tx and brother, Roger (Lori) Gilbertson of Vermillion and sister-in-law, Anne Moritz of Azusa, CA and several nieces and nephews.

    Milo is preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law and their spouses, Jane & Harold Knichrehm, & Mary & Don Burggraff.  

     Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 19^th at 10:30am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, with burial of ashes to follow in the St. Agnes Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Hansenfuneralhome.com.
