On Saturday, July 24, Dorothy Eileen Moses passed away peacefully at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Dorothy was born in Springfield, Illinois on August 4, 1924 to Almeda and Alvin Watkins. Dorothy grew up in Ashland, Illinois where she attended a one-room schoolhouse and was the only student in her grade. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Shurtleff college in Alton, Illinois and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Illinois. Dorothy and her husband Darrell were married for 59 years and had three children – Robert of Richmond, MO, James of Newton, IA, and Pamela (Ford) of Vermillion. Dorothy and Darrell had thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Dorothy taught 8th grade English for thirty-three years in Alton, Illinois, and after retirement, volunteered for the National Park Service for seven years. She loved to travel and was an avid reader. An expert quilter, Dorothy has made hundreds of quilts and taught many quilting workshops over the years. She moved to Vermillion, SD in 2013 to be near her daughter.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters.
