Richard (Dick) Dean Anderson went to his eternal home on February 18, 2023.
Dick was born on August 1, 1942, in Viborg, SD to Russell and Leone (Ostrem) Anderson. A fun fact he liked to tell was he was the first baby born in the Viborg Hospital. He also had a second birthday, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior on January 28, 2019. Because of that decision, we know that he is in heaven, completely healed and whole and full of joy.
Family and friends will remember Dick for his quick wit, his story telling, his jokes, his horses, his basketball and for his ability to build things like his first pony cart as a kid, his bird houses made from kerosene cans, and his saw handle walking canes. And, his big stuff, like his lean-to extension to his shop, and the porch on the house. His woodshop with his tools is where he had to be. The acreage he and Linda lived on for the last 35 years of his life is filled with his creations, inside and out.
He is survived by his wife Linda of Vermillion, a son Aaron Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, a brother Doug (Valerie) Anderson of Rathdrum, ID, Granddaughters: Madelyn and Gabbi Aday of Beresford, SD, a Special Friend Rhonda Lundquist and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Susan Sims Anderson, an infant son, his sister Janet Hollingsworth and an infant nephew.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 4 at the Cornerstone Church in Vermillion with burial of ashes at a later date in the Union Cemetery in Wakonda, SD.
