Ronnie K. Fystro, 78, entered heaven under the compassionate care of Sanford Ava’s House on Saturday, July 13th, 2024. He passed away surrounded by his loving family one year after he suffered many severe injuries in a UTV accident on his farm west of Irene, SD.
Ron was born to Clara and Gordon Fystro August 27th, 1945, at his family’s farmhouse outside of Volin, SD. He joined three older sisters who doted on their new baby brother and was later joined by a younger sister. His sisters have many stories of the mischief he put them through while growing up. He graduated from Volin High School and started farming. On August 19th, 1972, he married Mary Bruun and together they had two daughters, Amy and Kristin. Ron and Mary lived on the farm 7 miles west of Irene where he continued to farm with his friend Marcel Kathol until his injury.
Ron and his wife Mary attended Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene SD, and he was actively involved in the church. He got joy out of watching his girls, Amy and Kristin, in all their activities throughout high school and continued to be so supportive in everything they did after college and into adulthood.
Following Mary’s death in 1999, Ron married Catherine (Cathy) Stemper of Tyndall, SD on September 30, 2011. They resided on the farm together up until the time of his accident. Together they enjoyed going to dances, traveling, attending their grandchildren's events, and remaining active at Calvary Lutheran Church.
Ron will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted, thoughtful, hardworking, faithful, humble father and friend. He was an excellent listener and gave great advice. Slow to anger and patient, he never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He had a great sense of humor, loved his family, and enjoyed afternoon naps in the recliner.
Ron was preceeded in death by his parents, Clara and Gordon Fystro, his sister Marjorie Danielsen, and his first wife Mary Fystro. He will be forever missed by his daughters, Amy (David) Hoines, Sioux Falls SD, and Kristin (Eric) Holoch, Overland Park KS, his wife Cathy Fystro, Irene SD, his stepchildren Doug (Suzanne) Stemper, Brian (Lisa) Stemper, and Jodi (Joey) Cap. Sharing in sorrow are his grandchildren Carson, Bennett and Ellyse Hoines, and Emmaline, Annalise and Ivy Holoch, and step-grandchildren Emily (Jason) DeJong and Joseph Cap. He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn Pruitt of Sioux Falls, SD, Beverly Danielsen of Yankton, SD, and Linda Kuppenbender of Granite Falls, WA, along with many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, SD, at 10:30 on July 18, 2024, and he will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, SD on July 17 at 5-7pm with family present.
