Royce Martz, 63, of Centerville, SD passed away peacefully at his home after a battle with cancer.
Royce was born August 27, 1959 in Ute, IA to Frank and Mary (Leisinger) Martz. The family moved to Centerville in 1968, and Royce attended school there. He started operating machinery at age 10 with his dad Frank and his brother Rick, eventually taking over the Martz Excavating business. Before doing that, he was in law enforcement for 20 years, 11 years as the Centerville Police Chief, a hunter safety course instructor for 11 years, and also an archery instructor. He was also on the board that eventually brought 911 services to South Dakota. His favorite things in life were spending time with family and friends, and his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Treyton Martz, nephews Bucky and Waylon Madsen and a niece Meghan Bartels.
He is survived by his sons: Jamie (Naomi) Martz, Justin Martz all of Centerville, Josh (Alyssa) Martz of Davis, SD, Grandchildren: Tyrell (Jessica), Tucker, Addison, Alivia and a great granddaughter Alliyah. Also a step daughter Trista Fischer and her daughter Adriana, and his siblings: Vicki, Cathy, Jenny, Pam and Rick. As well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 19 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, with burial to follow in the Holland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday, July 18 at the funeral home. HansenFuneralHome.com.
