Olin Sivertson

September 3, 1928 — July 5, 2019

Olin joined his brothers and sisters in the Sivertson family on September 3, 1928. Like the others, he grew up and went to school in the rural Volin area. He was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in 1943.
In September of 1945, young Olin, like his brothers before him, joined the Army and served in Aberdeen, Maryland, and Alaska. He earned his honorable discharge in March of 1948.
Olin worked in the Volin area as a farm hand for Melvin Hanson for 23 years and then went to work for the Girard brothers for 23 years. He also delivered water to area farms. In later years, he did some “handy man” work around the Volin area, painting houses and barns, and such.
Olin never married but remained close to his brothers and sisters and their families. He bought his parents’ house from his brothers and continued to live there for several years. After a visit from some of his cousins from Norway, he made a trip to visit them. He really enjoyed seeing where his parents had emigrated from.
In later years, Olin suffered from heart ailments. In 2013, he sold the house in Volin and moved to the Heritage Manor in Wakonda. After a time in the Nursing Home section, he moved into an assisted living apartment which was still a part of the Heritage Manor.
His health deteriorated the summer of 2019 and he again moved into the Nursing Home section of the Heritage Manor. There he passed away on July 5, 2019, just a few months short of his ninety-first birthday.
Olin is survived by a brother Harold (Sharyn) Sivertson of Omaha, NE and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
