Todd Hood Stewart, known as “Hambone” to his friends, passed away on December 22nd, 2024.
Todd was born on August 17th, 1954, to Don and Katie Stewart, the third of six children. He spent his entire life in Vermillion, with more friends than anyone could ever wish for.
Todd lived life to the fullest, going to Super Bowls, World Series, and more trips to Vegas than you could count. In 1985, Todd went to game seven of the World Series in Kansas City and attended an after party with a group that was likely in a different tax bracket than him. When asked what he did for a living, Todd said, “I’m in the oil business…I change it daily.”
Todd was a huge USD and VHS supporter, and Todd is more than likely at the top of the list as far as games attended at the Dakota Dome. His fall weekends were filled with football and winters with basketball. You could find him in the first row, center court or 50-yard line.
Todd was a self-employed, small business owner, who could do whatever he wanted. The thing Todd wanted most was to work at the station so he could see his friends every day. He truly lived the American dream. He was a great friend and will be missed by many.
Family was the most important thing in Todd’s life. He was a husband to Jenni, father to Brittni and Sarah, and grandfather to Kynlee, Londyn, Bronx, and Halle. Todd loved his family and taught his children the work hard – play hard philosophy that he always lived by. Todd was very close to his siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and wouldn’t miss a family gathering. His summers were spent with the family boating on the river or swimming at the pool.
Todd was preceded by his parents, Don and Katie Stewart, sister Kathy Devine, brothers Steve Stewart and Mike Stewart, and niece, Jenna Stewart-Benzel. Todd’s survivors include his wife, daughters, grandchildren, brother Chuck (Noreen) Stewart, sister Ann (Ron) Schoellerman, Uncle Bob (Jewel) Hood, brother in-law Bob (Judy) Devine, sister in-law Jane Stewart, and all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many, many great life-long friends.
Funeral services will be on December 26th, at 10:30 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, South Dakota. A luncheon at Bunyan’s will follow shortly after the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Trinity Lutheran Building Fund. HansenFuneralHome.com
