Patrick Glenn Wingen

Patrick Glenn Wingen, 70, of Vermillion, SD passed away surrounded by his family on February 16, 2020 after a brief stay at Naples Community Hospital in Florida.
Pat was born January 9, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Deadwood, SD. He was the son of Ernest and Marie (Schaefbauer) Wingen. He was baptized into the Catholic faith at the hospital due to the presence of the Rh blood factor. This required a complete blood transfusion immediately after his birth. He received his First Confession, First Communion, and Confirmation as a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoven, SD. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic school through 8th grade and Hoven High School for 9th through 12th grade. He attended South Dakota State University for his undergraduate years and received a BS in Biology and Economics. He then went on to the University of South Dakota,where received his Master’s in Business Administration.
He was first united in marriage to JoAnn Frost on August 29, 1970 at St Anthony’s church in Hoven. Together they had six children. Bona, born in Hoven; Nathan, born in Brookings; and JoMarie, Mindy, Patrick (Christopher), and Lindsey, born in Vermillion. They divorced in 1988. He was then united in marriage to Theresa (Schulze) Basom in 1998 at St. Agnes church in Vermillion. Theresa’s daughter (Mary) brought the family number to nine (A houseful of joy to say the least).
Pat worked his way through college doing carpenter work, a joy he never outgrew (He built two homes himself). After graduating from USD in 1975, he took a job in Alcester, SD working for Alkota Manufacturing. In 1981 he and two others started AaLadin Industries Inc. in Elk Point, SD. In 1998 he became sole owner of AaLadin. He remained active in AaLadin until his passing. His dream of keeping the business in the family was fulfilled when his two sons, Chris and Nate, took over the business in 2020.
Pat was a member of St. Agnes Parish in Vermillion since 1975, and held many leadership positions in that parish. He served on many boards on a voluntary basis, including The Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota, the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Youth Business Adventure advisory board, the Great Plains Policy Institute, the Dakota Hospital Foundation board, the Cleaning Equipment Trade Association board, and many other voluntary memberships. He had a passion for children and charity.
Pat’s hobbies included classic cars, carpentry, NASCAR, and his greatest interest was spending time with his grandchildren. Pat and his wife Theresa have a winter home in Naples, Florida and thoroughly enjoyed spending time down south.
Pat is survived by his wife Theresa of Vermillion; his children: Bona (Cameron) Ellis of Sioux Falls SD; Nathan Wingen of Vermillion SD; JoMarie (Aaron) Bjorkman of Sioux Falls SD; Mindy (Scott) Elkins of Tea SD; Mary (Gabe) Matherly of Gilbert, AZ; Christopher Wingen of Sioux Falls SD; and Lindsey (Logan) Denning of Corsica SD; and the blessing of 22 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Linda (Don) Erlenbusch, Mary (Jim) Dahl; brothers Bruce Wingen, Ron (Satomi) Huber, Tom (Robin) Huber and Bill Wingen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Marie Wingen, and brother Monte Wingen.
